BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE
Jorge Cruz (Porto, 2000) is a Portuguese artist who lives in Barcelos and holds a Master's degree in Fine Arts (Painting) from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Porto.
Through various techniques in Painting and Drawing, his work presents itself as an aesthetic perspective and is conceptually understood within the concepts and foundations established by Surrealism, as well as by the entire set of similar styles that preceded this avant-garde movement of the 20th century.
Grounded in a realistic representation, his work describes a romanticized vision of a fantastical world, to which the artist has exclusive access, where he addresses a set of abstract themes that, with the aid of metaphor, can be comprehended through the materialization that it enables.

ARTIST STATEMENT
Jorge Cruz's artwork takes place in a parallel world, in which elements and events of a paradoxical condition populate a space similar to the everyday environments that characterize this world.
Assuming itself as a mirror representation, a new fantasy plane, which combines reality with elements of a mythological, dreamlike, metaphorical nature. His work present s itself as a bridge between the domains of logic and imagination, with metaphor being the main tool that aims to transfer and understand concepts of an abstract or poorly outlined nature, establishing symbolic and semiotic relations between them and other apparently distinct elements.
The narratives presented are characterized not only by the embodiment of diffuse and strange elements, but also by the romanticization of the fantastic, proposing an expansive look at everyday life.
Through the perception of this world, the spectator is faced with possible mirrors that belong to the artist's universe, but which also expand according to their own perspectives, motivations, and intellectual background.
